Three women entrepreneurs shared their inspiring stories during the Seminar on Gender and Development entitled “Magnegosyo at Umasenso: Babae, Yaman ka ng Bayan”. The one-day seminar was jointly sponsored by STARRDEC and Cavite State University on March 30, 2009 at the Rolle Hall, CvSU, Indang, Cavite. Ms. Lodevinia A. Malijan, a former government employee, shared how she became a successful AVON Sales Executive Manager and Service Center Operator. She said, “My success was brought about by dreaming – writing my dreams on a piece of paper and giving myself time frame to fulfill those dreams.” She emphasized that one should set his/her target goals, enjoy his/her work and give his/her best in everything he/she does.
Mrs. Socorro R. Perey, the owner and co-founder of Mendez Nuñez Montessori (MNM) and a Gene Lopez Bayani awardee, said, “I want to encourage all Filipino women, especially those in the region, to enter into entrepreneurship!” She narrated the story behind MNM and the many personal battles she encountered along the way.
Councilor Teofila E. Atas of Indang, Cavite shared her experiences in running a catering business. According to her, this kind of business is not always a success. There are times that failure comes. However, she reminded everybody that in business, whenever you fall, you should also learn how to rise.
Hon. Arlene C. Arayata, Board Member of 2nd District of Cavite and Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Family and Social Service, and Hon. Raquel N. Quiambao, Indang Municipal Council Member and Chairperson of Committee on Women and Family Welfare, also gave their inspirational messages. They emphasized the importance of hard work, patience, goal setting, and continuous learning in entrepreneurship.
In the afternoon, the participants witnessed the making of pulvoron with malunggay powder. Ms. Salome B. Samantilla, a GAD representative from DENR Region IV, led the demonstration. |
